Working with the books

Just started reading this one.. I can see a lot of ties to curriculum; mainly on character development and acceptance. I think it would be interesting to ask the students to discuss how Catherine's feeling for Jason changed, and why...

Do you think this would be a good one for a teacher to read aloud?

I loved this book! I have already recommended it for teacher read aloud to several teachers. I thought it would encourage an interesting discussion on how people can do things in different ways and still have similar experiences (i.e. the experience of "running" from the perspective of someone in a wheelchair and "talking" using a communications book) I thought the book was well done and recommended it from the day I read it last fall. We have Autistic units at our school and I have suggested we use it as a whole school read aloud.

This is an absolutely amazing book, written from the perspective of the sister whose brother has autism. This book will be my first read aloud since I feel there could be great discussions forthcoming. I think Kirsti is a good character to delve into. The part where Kirsti and Ryan are at the dance and Kirsti meets Jason. Yes, there is going to be some good discussion from the students.
